Both Lauren and Richard teach in advanced certification programs: Lauren in Structural Integration/KMI through Tom Myers' school (www.anatomytrains.com), and Richard in Advanced Certification in Orthopedic Massage through the Port Townsend School of Massage (www.massageeducation.com). Please see these sites for a full description and schedule for those programs. Below is a list of short courses they teach.
Essentials of Intraoral Massage
This 2-day course focuses on working the musculature of the jaw - inside and out, as well as the anterior neck (hyoid sling), and upper cervicals. Together these structures coordinate movement in the jaw and mouth. This course prepares manual practitioners to meet the WA state guidelines for intraoral endorsement. For more details, click here.
Advanced Intraoral Work
This 3-day course builds on the muscular work we cover in Essentials, by focusing on the deeper architecture: the mandibular ligaments, fascial membranes within the cranium, and the deep myofascia of the anterior neck. We also cover detailed assessment and corrections for the upper cervical spine. For more details, click here.
Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians
Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians gets you connected! See how the muscles connect through the fabric of the body's fascia. The course, developed by Tom Myers, author of Anatomy Trains, bridges a new approach to anatomy with myofascial release technique, body reading and movement assessment. Click here to learn more.
The Body3 Series
This series of courses explores the functional anatomy of various body regions through fascial release technique. Based on the writing of her colleagues, Tom Myers and James Earls, Lauren has developed each course to focus on particular strategies and assessment skills that she's found effective in her practice. Each class may be taken on its own and in any order. Click the links for in-depth descriptions of the following courses:
Gaining Support from the Foot and Lower Leg
Intrinsic Muscles of the Pelvis
The Upper Girdle: Balancing the Shoulder and Arm
Getting a Clear Start: Fascial Release and Weight-Bearing Palpation
Assessment in the 'real world' of weight-bearing is a great window into understanding clients' imbalances and how they relate to musculoskeletal symptoms. We'll uncover common postural patterns, create session strategies based on our findings, and introduce a simple, effective method of fascial release. For more.
